I believed people would take me more seriously if my words came from the mouth of a woman instead of a 10-year-old girl. I dreamt of my hair turning white, of embodying wisdom, and of becoming what I now recognize as an elder.
I loved calling all our babies “Thorpling” but calling our second-born “Thorpling #2” for the rest of my life just didn’t seem too appealing. My mom suggested naming our baby to help bring closure and healing in some capacity.
